23 Week Appt and U/S

I had both of my appointments right in the middle of this nasty snow storm, but was able to make it to both safely. I was a little worried Grant wasn't going to be able to make it to the ultra sound yesterday, but he did. However, baby wasn't cooperating very much and decided to get himself into a breech position. So, Grant didn't get to see him very well or moving around like I did at the first appt. And with the breech position, I didn't get any new pictures that were very good. She was able to get his little feet as you will see below, again not very clear pictures. Baby is weighing 1 pound, 1 ounce and 10.5 inches long. Right on track :)

At my appointment today, the first thing I asked was whether or not I needed to be concerned about this breech position. She reassured me, he still has a lot of growing and moving to do, so right now it is not a concern. Whew.... If he was breech at 36 weeks, then we would start discussing options. So I am hoping he starts moving his little butt around in there! His heartbeat today was 145 bpm and yesterday it was 166, so he must have settled down a little bit today. She said everything is right on track and has no concerns at this point. I only gained two pounds since my last appointment, and she was wanting five, so I guess I have some weight to gain. It feels like I have gained a lot! Here is me at 23 weeks, 3 days.

Other than my appts, nothing else too exciting has been going on on our front. Grant has been ice fishing a lot, going to hockey, and doing homework. I am in full baby mode so I have been moving things around, buying things (I think I am cut off now!), and starting to get stuff in the nursery. Grant's next task is to paint the nursery, or I have threatened him I will do it. :)We did go and get samples last weekend, so that is a start. We got our glider and changing table set-up this last weekend so things are on their way! Next appointment is March 9th and that will be the 1 hour glucose test (let's hope I pass!) and my regular OB check up. Stay tuned!

Shocking News

On January 15th I had my annual physical to get more prescriptions, etc. and I was kind of taken by surprise. After my exam, my Dr. (of whom I do not recommend going to now!) said my uterus felt enlarged and could be either an "early" pregnancy, a full bladder, or benign masses. She didn't seem too concerned about this and told me to watch it and let me leave! So a little shaken up, I went home. Thankfully I was working from home, so I could sit in panic alone. (Well with Joline on messenger, thank god!). So I knew I didn't have a full bladder, so we eliminated that right away. The next easy one to eliminate would be a pregnancy test. So I drove to CVS, got my birth control pills I got refilled and a pregnancy test. I am sure the pharmacist thought that was a nice combo to buy together! And I went home. In the meantime, I emailed Grant this whole situation because he was at work and I didn't know who was around him so I didn't want to call him. I quickly got a text saying to "take the damn test!" So after MUCH convincing, I took the test. And it showed up positive RIGHT away! So my heart began to beat very fast at this point.

I decided right away I didn't want to go back to that Dr. obviously, so I made an appt in Eagan where Joline went with all her kids. I of course couldn't get an appt. until Tuesday so I knew I would have a long five days ahead of me. And not to mention, a state bowling tournament in St. Cloud overnight! I made it through the weekend and finally the appt. was upon us. I told Grant he didn't need to go with me because when you are so early on in pregnancy, the appts. until 12 weeks really are pointless until you can hear a heartbeat or see anything on an ultra sound. So I went alone.

Nervous as heck, I went to the appt. and again was shocked. It was just supposed to be a 15 minute appt. to verify I was indeed pregnant and then I was to set-up my next appt. after. After she looked me over, she whipped out the doppler and put that up to my stomach. Oh yeah a nice STRONG 152 BPM heartbeat... Are you kidding me! The sweat began in my armpits. She then said, "Okay kiddo, we are gonna need to turn this into a full OB appt." I then got sent over to the ultra sound, my heart just beating by this point, and again to my amazement, there sure WAS a baby on the screen! She says I am measuring 20 weeks... TWENTY WEEKS! Are you kidding me! I just cannot believe it. Then she asked me if I wanted to know what the sex was. I said sure, nothing else can shock me at this point! It's a BOY! I knew Grant would be more than excited to hear this. I then got sent to the lab to get all my blood work done and all that fun stuff. After all of this was over, I called Grant to tell him everything and we were both just shocked.

We decided we better go tell our parents right away, so we went to both our parents' house and showed them the pictures and they were both VERY shocked and then excited. That helped us calm down a little bit and were able to let some excitement set in. So that is how this whole situation happened. :-)

I am now 23 weeks tomorrow and have been feeling really good. Things are starting to stretch so I have an occasional pain here and there, but nothing major or unbearable. I have popped majorly in the last two weeks, so I am now out of my regular clothes and into maternity clothes. I am very thankful to have Joline and Lisa at work with me for all of my stupid questions, etc. and I think I am adjusting to this new way of life pretty well! I have my next ultra sound on Monday and then my next OB appt on Tuesday. I will post pictures of the ultra sound next week. For now, here is just one of me at 22 weeks.
